Job summary

Opentrons Labworks Inc. is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to build AI-powered features for OpentronsAI. You will design the internal ML/AI stack, including NLP parsing, routing classifiers, and embedding infrastructure that grounds model output in real protocol knowledge.

You’ll develop RAG pipelines, evaluation rubrics, and safety instrumentation, while ensuring observability and scalable production readiness in a hybrid office in Long Island City, NY.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering, with 3+ years in production AI/ML/LLM-powered apps.
• Experience shipping a SaaS product through real launches and ongoing operations.
• Strong background in cloud microservices (AWS preferred) and production deployments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate AWS-based microservices and asynchronous workflows for protocol generation and SaaS platform integration.
• Apply systems design to AI components: routing, service communication, data flow, and scalable architecture.
• Develop NLP pipelines, classifiers, and embedding infrastructure for grounding model output in real protocols knowledge.
• Build RAG pipelines: chunking, embedding/indexing, and retrieval tuning to improve accuracy.
• Create evaluation rubrics to measure AI output quality and drive iteration before production releases.
• Implement cost and safety instrumentation including token spend tracking and guardrails for safe operation.
• Add observability through logging, metrics, and tracing; support on-call and incident response after launch.
