Job summary

Instacart is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Caper AI, to design, build, and deploy software that helps retailers manage connected store tech at scale. You will work on AI systems that address loss prevention, verification, and catalog management, building data pipelines and APIs for rapid integrations.

You will influence backend architecture, distributed systems, and testing portals to support scalable, reliable software for millions of customers, with flexible work locations under our Flex

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or foreign equivalent).
• 5 years of experience in the job offered or related.
• 5 years of experience working with backend languages (Java, Ruby, Kotlin)
• 5 years of experience with frontend technologies (TypeScript, React, Next.js)
• 5 years with AI systems (LLMs, Computer Vision, multimodal)
• 5 years designing resilient backend systems and distributed infrastructure
• 5 years working with backend APIs
• 5 years architecting data pipelines and ETL for real-time data
• 5 years monitoring and observability tools

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality web applications and AI systems for retailers.
• Architect data pipelines and reverse ETL integrating multiple data sources.
• Standardize API contracts across retailer systems for speed of integration.
• Lead backend architecture and scalable distributed infrastructure.
• Build testing frameworks and logging for rapid retailer integrations.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives to improve customer shopping experiences.
• Other duties as assigned.
