ESAero is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design, development, and integration of mechanical systems for aircraft products. You will drive CAD design, analysis, and verification, collaborating across cross‑functional teams to ensure performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

The role emphasizes independent judgment, design for manufacturability, and mentorship of junior engineers. On‑site in San Luis Obispo, CA, with comprehensive benefits and a focus on quality and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; master’s preferred.
• 5–9 years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably in aerospace or complex systems.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD tools, including drawing creation and revision control.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, assemblies, structures, mechanisms, and materials.
• Hands‑on experience with design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
• Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and manage complex tasks.
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and optimize 3D CAD models, drawings, and assemblies.
• Perform structural, thermal, and systems‑level analysis to evaluate performance.
• Contribute to requirements definition, trade studies, and verification planning.
• Generate and review documents ensuring alignment with engineering intent and configuration control.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, technicians, and other disciplines.
• Support test, verification, and validation of mechanical systems.
• Maintain configuration control and documentation integrity using PDM/PLM systems.
• Participate in design reviews with technical rationale and risk assessments.
• Identify risks, propose mitigations, and improve manufacturability and safety.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
