Job description

Executive - 336 Regular Full time St. Louis, Clayton, MO, US

2 days ago Requisition ID: 1163

Moneta is an independent Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) wholly focused on going further for our clients. We are one firm with many solutions, and we provide a full spectrum of financial advisory services, with our true purpose centered on building relationships and providing exceptional service to our clients around the globe. For that reason, we’ve built an entrepreneurial business model organized around our clients. Our advisor teams are empowered to serve only in the best interest of their clients. Our independence means that we are never beholden to stakeholders or parent companies. We also have the unique ability to trace our history back nearly 150 years, demonstrating our ability to evolve to meet the needs of those we serve.

Summary

The Senior Advisor - (Client Referral Programs) is a hybrid role that combines Senior Advisor-level client advisory with dedicated business development responsibility for the firm’s participation in key referral channels. This person builds and maintains relationships with assigned referral sources to grow qualified referral volume, while also serving as a subject matter expert who leads client relationships — including for investors referred by programs which Moneta is a part of — with comprehensive financial planning and wealth management advice. This position requires a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP) designation and works closely with the Director of Strategic Growth Initiatives and firm leadership to assess clients’ financial situations, develop personalized financial plans, and recommend appropriate investment strategies, insurance products, and retirement planning solutions.

The role demands strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills — both with referral sources and with clients — as well as proficiency in financial analysis and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate understands how referral programs operate, is comfortable representing the firm in educational and relationship-building event settings and is equally effective in leading client meetings and financial planning work.

  • Work closely with the Director of Strategic Growth Initiatives to grow the referral business and serve as an experienced advisor to referred clients
  • Lead client meetings — including initial consultations with referred investors, jointly with the referring party when required — to understand financial goals, needs, and risk tolerance
  • Prepare and/or review financial action plans for prospects and clients
  • Facilitate services for clients including investment management, retirement planning, education planning, tax and accounting services, insurance planning, banking and cash management, business planning, estate planning, and philanthropic strategies, bringing in internal and external resources as required
  • Maintain a written, up-to-date client profile — investment objectives, financial situation, time horizon, and risk tolerance — as required under the guidelines for referred clients
  • Develop and source new business through the prospect and referral pipeline
  • Help with education of internal constituents on feedback for continuous improvement with referred clients.
  • Travel as necessary to meet with clients and attend business development functions
Business Development & Branch Engagement
  • Share marketing materials, case studies, and relationship reviews that help referring parties understand the firm’s differentiating capabilities and identify appropriate referral opportunities
  • Plan and execute referral partner presentations and client education events
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills by capturing key points from client meetings and keeping the referring party in the loop by using a communication template established by Moneta
  • Track engagement activity using a structured scoring or CRM process to identify which referring relationships are strongest and where additional outreach is needed
  • Coordinate with referring party to schedule joint meetings with referred investors and manage each referral through qualification, conversion, and onboarding
  • Track progress, assess where additional focus may need to be applied to ensure program success and revenue metrics are met and advanced
Qualifications
  • Certified Financial Planner® (CFP), and/or Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA), (minimum of one required)
  • A Series 65 or combination of a Series 7 and Series 66 licensing
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 10 or more years of relevant and progressively more complex experience, in one or more of the seven subject areas defined by the CFP board
  • Minimum of 5 years working as a client advisor
  • Prior experience with an institutional custodian referral program (e.g., Schwab Advisor Network or a similar channel) strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated business development and relationship management track record, ideally within a custodial or referral-based channel
  • Ability to travel regularly
  • Certified Public Accountant® (CPA) with tax expertise, or Juris Doctor (JD) with estate planning experience a plus
