The role includes travel (10‑20%), interaction with suppliers, and a hybrid work schedule from the Phoenix location. You will support all phases of product development and guide junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor‑level or higher in a technical discipline with machining focus.
  • 6+ years in materials/process engineering with emphasis on machining operations.
  • Experience with aerospace alloys (aluminum, steel, titanium, nickel).
  • Knowledge of Nadcap standards and industry approvals.

Responsibilities

  • Support for materials and processes involved in design, manufacture, and machining of parts for aerospace engines.
  • Interact with internal and external machining suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with Honeywell Engineering, Quality, SDE, and ISC to liaison machining suppliers.
  • Possibly lift up to 35 pounds and travel 10‑20% (national and international).

Job description

As a Senior Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer – Machining here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will provide technical expertise and support in materials and process engineering with an emphasis on machining operations and processes. You will work as part of a highly engaged and integrated Materials Engineering team and collaborate across Honeywell Aerospace engineering teams to create solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will participate in all phases of product development and will be a technical point of contact for less experienced engineers.

Approximately 10-20% travel, national and international.

You will report directly to our Senior Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

This Materials Engineering position will provide support for new and existing products including aerospace gas turbine engines used for propulsion and auxiliary power. Primary responsibilities include support for materials and processes involved in the design, manufacture, and machining of parts, as well as regular interaction with internal and external machining suppliers to help resolve issues. May occasionally need to lift 35 pounds single lift.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
  • 6+ years of experience in materials/process engineering with an emphasis on machining operations
  • 4+ years experience with aluminum, steel, titanium and nickel aerospace alloys
  • Bachelor’s Degree with specialization in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced degree in engineering or another related field a plus
  • Understanding and hands‑on experience in machining operations/processes (grinding, milling, shot‑peening, EDM, controlled process machining, non‑conventional machining)
  • Familiarity with industrial materials and processing specifications
  • Familiarity with Nadcap and industry standards, requirements and approvals
  • Capable of assessing new suppliers and determining their strengths and weaknesses
  • Experience with conducting machining process audits
  • Working with and developing machining suppliers
  • Liaison work between machining suppliers and Honeywell Engineering, Quality, Supplier Development Engineers (SDE), and Integrated Supply Chain (ISC)
  • Understanding engineering drawings and requirements
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean and other process improvement tools
