About the Job

The CFANS Student Services Office's mission is to serve prospective students, provide academic advising services, facilitate short term international programs, promote and support engagement opportunities for undergraduate students and provide support for the college's undergraduate teaching efforts. The Admissions/Prospective Student Services unit follows detailed annual recruitment plans that are developed in consultation with the central Office of Admissions. Our freshmen admissions counselor coordinates prospective student visits, responds to prospective student inquiries, schedules individual appointments with prospective students, communicates with prospective students and applicants to encourage them to confirm their intent to enroll, coordinates collegiate admissions events and participates in college fairs and recruitment events.

This is a 100%, full-time, 12-month, on-campus, annually renewable appointment in the academic professional and administrative (P&A) personnel series. Most work is conducted during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. However, evening and weekend work is occasionally required, as necessary, to properly execute the duties of this role. Occasional remote work may be accommodated at the description of the Assistant Dean of Student Services & International Programs when such remote work is in the interest of the University.

Freshman outreach and recruitment - 50%

• Serve as the local, internal "face" of recruiting and admissions to the CFANS community ( e.g. Directors of Undergraduate Study, faculty, Deans, Department Heads, etc.), by answering questions, listening to concerns, and educating about recruiting strategy and methods, referring colleagues to the Office of Admissions as appropriate.
• Serve as a key member of the CFANS Student Services team and Office of Admissions team.
• Implement activities to recruit and matriculate students to CFANS, in close collaboration with CFANS administrative priorities, departments, and student groups.
• Represent the University and CFANS to high school students, families, high school teachers and guidance counselors.
• Make extensive outreach efforts, via telephone (calling and texting), writing, and in-person to prospective students, CFANS applicants, and admits.
• Serve as one-stop contact for CFANS prospective freshmen, parents, high school teachers and guidance counselors as well as provide advising and assistance throughout the admission process.
• Coordinate and deliver CFANS on-campus prospective freshmen information sessions.
• Develop and implement various admissions/recruitment events including the Future Gopher Admitted Day (FGAD)
• Educate Office of Admissions' recruiters about CFANS' unique educational programs so that they can share these opportunities as they help recruit with any prospective CFANS audience.
• Develop and coordinate events, projects and actively participate with the CFANS Ambassadors student organization and serve as the group's advisor.
• Collaborate with collegiate colleagues on incoming students' scholarship needs.

Inquiry Response and Campus Visit Coordinator - 25%

• Respond to prospective student inquiries for CFANS. The inquiries vary from admission decision explanations to setting up specialized visits and appointments, and those inquiries often require a great deal of autonomy to address in a timely fashion.
• Build relationships with inquirers to the college, and to help guide them through the application process.

Application Evaluation - 15%

• Evaluate academic and other credentials for admission decision and counseling purposes.
• Evaluate coursework and determine the level of completion of prerequisite coursework.
• Conduct a careful review of individual education, academic major selection, and goals to determine whether the student would be a good fit in the college
• Monitor targeted enrollment outcomes for their college, and to make admissions decisions accordingly.

Student Services Project Support - 10%

• Special projects as assigned by the CFANS Assistant Dean for Student Services & International Programs, based on personal strengths and abilities, as well as college needs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• BA/BS with at least 2 years of related experience or master's degree
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering the University's mission of an inclusive and welcoming campus community
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and/or recruitment experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Must have a valid driver's license; must be able to travel regionally and nationally, sometimes overnight or for extended periods
• Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in college admissions and recruitment or a closely related unit such as campus tours, orientation, college access community based organizations or other direct work with student outreach and enrollment
• Event planning or project management experience
• University of Minnesota experience defined broadly such as former student, graduate, employee, or community member of any campus.
• Demonstrated experience with Technolutions Slate

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $52,000 - $58,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
