Job summary

American Honda Motor Company, Inc. is seeking a Senior ADAS Test Engineer to coordinate and execute testing and development tasks for ADAS software.In this role, you will collaborate with teams in Japan and other international partners to ensure alignment and high-quality integration of advanced driver‑assist systems.

The position requires hands‑on development and strategic oversight, including project management, testing, root cause analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical, Automotive or Controls Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics and tuning vehicle control systems.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, validation, diagnostics, and CAN structures.
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition and CAN tools; travel may be required.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to extract requirements from concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop ADAS control software functions and tune vehicle control systems.
  • Define functional software requirements for CAN, self-diagnostic and failsafe detection; coordinate with suppliers.
  • Oversee testing of vehicle systems; instrument and troubleshoot; analyze data; identify root causes.

Job Purpose
  • The Senior ADAS Test Engineer will play a crucial role in coordinating and executing a wide range of testing and development tasks essential for departmental and organizational goals.
  • They will collaborate closely with teams in Japan, international engineering teams, and external partners, to ensure seamless alignment in developing ADAS software technologies.
  • This position takes responsibility for specific ADAS technologies, overseeing development, validation, and testing within development projects, which involves both hands‑on coordination and strategic oversight to ensure the successful integration of advanced driver‑assist systems, meeting high‑quality standards and surpassing customer expectations.
Key Accountabilities
  • Will be responsible for the development of the Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) control software functions, as well as tuning vehicle control systems.
  • Develop the functional software requirements related to CAN interface, Self‑Diagnostic, Failsafe Detection for each vehicle development, working with the system supplier to coordinate the integration of these functions into the vehicle, as well as verification of the functions.
  • Performs project management activities, overseeing the testing of the related vehicle systems, negotiating the hardware and software interfaces to integrate the system into the vehicle, instrumenting and troubleshooting vehicles for testing, analyzing test data, recommending solutions for test failures, and determining root cause(s).
  • Manage development projects/schedules, coordinate with corollary departments/suppliers and research new technologies and market trends Create and present technical documents / reports, including comprehensive root cause analysis when required.
Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
  • Minimum Educational Qualifications:
    • Must have a Bachelor’s or equivalent academic degree in any of these field of study - Computer Science; Electrical / Electronics Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Automotive Engineering or Controls Engineering
  • Minimum Work Experience:
    • A minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in the industry.
  • Other Job‑Specific Skills:
    • Comprehensive understanding of vehicle dynamics, steering control functions and experience for tuning vehicle control systems.
    • Comprehensive understanding of requirements management, function validation, diagnostics, and CAN structures.
    • Hands‑on mechanical ability alongside good understanding of vehicle systems.
    • Analytical skills to prepare prototype vehicles for testing. Ability to troubleshoot system issues and propose solutions to those issues.
    • Some travel domestic and internationally should be expected to visit various proving grounds, visit suppliers engineering offices and production locations and support Honda factories during pre‑production launch timings.
    • Must posses a valid driver’s license required to operate vehicles on proving grounds. PC Skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, CANalyzer, CANape and other technical software)
    • Excellent communication skills coupled with the willingness to pro‑actively seek out information from others and convert concepts into specific requirements.
    • Experience with data acquisition systems and Vector CAN tools is a plus.
    • Comprehensive understanding of electrical hardware fundamentals and software development process Should have strong presentation skills

  • This is an onsite job. One remote workday per week may be possible with prior departmental approval.
