Job summary

Shield AI, a defense-tech company, seeks a Staff (L4) Actuated Systems Engineer to own mechanical design and integration of actuation systems for UAV flight control surfaces and deployable mechanisms. You will drive layouts, CAD releases, and hardware testing in a fast-paced aircraft development environment.

The ideal candidate has 7–12 years in aerospace mechanical design, hands-on actuation experience, and strong skills in CAD, GD&T, and system integration.

Qualifications

• 7–12 years of mechanical systems design in aerospace or regulated industry.
• Hands-on experience with actuated mechanisms or aircraft installations.
• Strong CAD skills for detailed layout and drawing release.
• Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516 and MIL-STD-810 is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and mature actuator installations within vehicle packaging constraints.
• Own detailed CAD design from concept through release and testing.
• Perform sizing, kinematic layout, and installation analysis for actuators.
• Conduct basic hand calcs and simple FEA for brackets and mounts.
• Coordinate interfaces with structures, EWIS, and thermal systems.
• Create design data packages for SRR, PDR, and CDR.
