Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Staff or Senior Staff Engineer to own flight control actuation system design for a Group 5 UAV fighter. You will define requirements, manage trades, and drive actuation hardware from design through production with rigorous verification.

A balance of technical depth and rapid decision-making is essential in a fast-paced defense context. The ideal candidate has 8–15 years in FCAS, a relevant engineering degree, and a current active clearance.

Qualifications

• 8–15 years in flight control actuation system design on fixed-wing aircraft.
• Education: B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• Experience with COTS/custom aerospace components and supplier management.
• Active US Secret or higher clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define, allocate, and own FCAS requirements and verification matrix.
• Design and analyze actuator systems for sizing, bandwidth, and redundancy.
• Drive control-law integration with Flight Controls and VMS.
• Coordinate with EPS, hydraulic systems, and thermal teams for power and heat management.
• Lead qualification testing per MIL-HDBK-516 and MIL-STD-810; support SRR/PDR/CDR.
• Source components, manage suppliers to schedule, and build test setups.
• Own program execution and design-maturity reviews with stakeholders.
