Job summary

Shield AI seeks a Staff Aerostructures Design Engineer to advance the structural components of its next-generation autonomous aircraft. You will guide the design from concept through production release, ensuring integrity and manufacturability while coordinating with aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and manufacturing teams.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in aerospace structural design, proficiency with CAD tools (NX/CATIA/SolidWorks), and experience in both composite and metallic

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 8+ years of aircraft structural design experience.
• Experience releasing structural components in development or production.
• Knowledge of composite and metallic structures, fasteners, bonded joints.
• Proficiency in CAD tools (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks).
• Understanding of GD&T, tolerance stackups, and DFMA.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance (S//SAR) desired.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop structural components for UAV platform.
• Lead design lifecycle from concept to drawing release.
• Perform hand calculations with basic FEA guidance.
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, payload, and manufacturing.
• Support structural validation: coupon testing, subcomponent tests, and system verification.
• Produce design documentation and interface definitions.
• Assist manufacturing and flight test teams to resolve build issues.
• Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback.
• Improve structural depth in joints, tolerancing, and optimization.
