Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Director & Actuary in Charlotte, NC to lead pricing methodologies and tools for the Workers’ Compensation line, supporting a $3B book across Small Business and Middle & Large Commercial segments.

The role partners with product, underwriting, data science, IT, and multiple actuarial teams; requires strong statistical, analytical, and communication skills; offers a hybrid work arrangement with offices in Hartford, Chicago, and Charlotte, plus travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of actuarial experience
• FCAS preferred, but not required
• Prior Workers’ Compensation experience a plus
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities
• Knowledge of Actuarial pricing and reserving techniques
• Strong technical/analytical skills; High proficiency in Excel; experience with R/SQL
• General knowledge of Property and Casualty insurance operations
• Effective oral and written communications skills
• Independently motivated; seeks to add value
• Teamwork skills with cross-organizational influence

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, enhancement and maintenance of actuarial pricing methodologies and tools used by Underwriting, Product and Sales teams.
• Update pricing model parameters with enhancements for accuracy and efficiency (loss development, trend, credibility refreshes).
• Foster connections with teammates and business partners; provide profitability analyses.
• Support production implementation of pricing initiatives.
• Stay apprised of industry trends and perspectives.
