Job summary

Markel is seeking a Sr. Actuarial Manager to lead the actuarial strategy for the Workers' Compensation segment. You will partner with senior leadership, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance to drive profitability and informed decision-making.

The role requires deep actuarial expertise, strong business acumen, and the ability to communicate complex analyses to technical and non-technical audiences. You will mentor staff and influence enterprise initiatives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; actuarial credentials preferred.
ACAS required; FCAS preferred.
8–10 years actuarial experience focused on Workers' Compensation.

Responsibilities

Lead actuarial analyses and provide strategic guidance for Workers' Compensation profitability.
Develop pricing analyses, rate indications, and portfolio monitoring tools.
Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, Finance and Executive Management.
Monitor results, loss trends, and underwriting performance for recommendations.
Provide actuarial support for planning, forecasting and reinsurance evaluations.
Communicate insights clearly to senior management and non-technical audiences.
Mentor actuarial staff and drive cross-functional initiatives.
