Job summary

The State of Georgia, Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, seeks an Activity Therapist 3 for Central State Hospital in Milledgeville. Requires a Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or psychology and two years' experience with developmental disabilities or mental health.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or related field (or psychology).
• Two years of job-related experience with developmental disabilities or mental health.
• Experience writing progress notes related to Recovery Plan objectives.
• Experience in facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups.
• Experience working with plants, gardens or greenhouse environments and horticulture practices.

Responsibilities

• Conducts therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being.
• Confers with treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs.
• Develops and implements treatment plans based on needs assessment and client goals.
• Encourages clients to participate in health-promoting life skills and leisure activities.
• Instructs clients in activities designed to meet physical or psychological needs.
• Observes and records client progress, adjusting programs as needed.
• Prepares reports reflecting client progress for the treatment team.
