Job summary

The YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead engaging classes and deliver a safe, energetic, high-quality group exercise experience for members and guests.

Under supervision, you will choreograph routes, ensure equipment readiness, and apply knowledge of exercise physiology, injury prevention, and nutrition to help participants reach their fitness goals while modeling YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old.
• Must have a nationally YMCA GE certification.
• Specialty I–IV require GE cert and experience (1–6 years).
• Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyles within 6 months.
• CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification required.
• Background checks and CPS check; annual CAP and harassment trainings.

Responsibilities

• Support YMCA mission and goals.
• Lead with caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
• Lead programs that strengthen youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
• Be prepared with choreographed routes for each class.
• Ensure equipment and supplies are ready before class.
• Demonstrate knowledge of exercise physiology, injury prevention, and nutrition.
• Commit to continuing GE certification and updating classes.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Act as a leader in emergencies and report incidents.
• Carry out related duties to ensure excellent member experience.
