Job summary

YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a Group Fitness Instructor to lead safe, engaging group exercise classes for our members across a range of formats. You will promote health and well-being while creating a welcoming environment that supports participants at all fitness levels to achieve their goals.

As a vital member of our Group Fitness team, you will ensure proper technique, motivation, and member connection, serving as a role model for healthy living and YMCA values.

Qualifications

• Must hold current CPR, First Aid and O2 certifications or obtain them within 30 days of hire.
• Current national Group Exercise certification (YMCA, AFAA, ACE, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, etc) or training within 30 days of hire.
• Candidates must pass group exercise interview and audition.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe, engaging, and effective group exercise classes for YMCA members.
• Deliver classes reflecting the Y’s commitment to healthy living; ensure proper technique and motivation.
• Maintain an inclusive environment where participants of all fitness levels feel welcome.
• Update choreography and music regularly to keep classes fresh and engaging.
