Job summary

Sage Solutions Group is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager in Southeast Michigan to lead month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls for a growing, values-driven organization.

The role guides the accounting team, mentors staff, and partners with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow while coordinating with external auditors and tax professionals. CPA preferred and NetSuite experience a plus.

Qualifications

• Active CPA preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including month-end close and financial reporting.
• Experience mentoring accounting staff preferred.
• Multi-state retailer experience is a plus.
• Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
• Strong GAAP and internal control knowledge.
• Retail inventory/cost accounting exposure is a strong plus.
• ERP/system optimization experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

Senior Accounting Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Senior Accounting Manager to help guide the accounting function as the company continues to grow. This role owns the month-end close, financial reporting, and internal controls, provides mentorship and support to the accounting team.

What You’ll Do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures in line with GAAP.
• Prepare and present monthly financial results, key variances, and business insights to senior leadership.
• Oversee general ledger accounting, including inventory, fixed assets, and cost of goods sold.
• Provide guidance, review, and mentorship to accounting team members, supporting their professional growth.
• Partner with Leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers, and support annual audit and tax filing processes.
• Maintain relationships with outside stakeholders, including vendors and lenders.
• Evaluate opportunities to automate manual accounting processes and improve system utilization.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities to improve margin and efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with sales tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory filing requirements across the states where the company operates.
• Complete monthly sales tax filings and related reconciliations, as needed.
• Support accounting system improvements and process automation as the company scales.

What You Bring

• Active, valid CPA license preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Prior experience mentoring or providing guidance within an accounting team preferred.
• Experience in a multi-state retailer preferred.
• Experience with NetSuite is a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices.
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting in a retail, e-commerce, or distribution environment is a strong plus.
• Experience implementing, upgrading, or optimizing an ERP or accounting system is a plus.
• Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills; ERP system experience preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
