Our client is looking to add an Accounting Manager to their team. This is a newly created role reporting to the Controller. Initially, you’ll be a hands-on individual contributor and subject-matter expert, with the opportunity to take on leadership of the inventory accounting function as the team evolves.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Take ownership of accounting for inventory, including valuation, costing, reserves and COGS
- Manage inventory reconciliations between the subledger and general ledger
- Research and resolve discrepancies involving physical inventory, perpetual records and accounting balances
- Review cycle counts and physical inventory results and ensure adjustments are properly analyzed and recorded
- Evaluate slow-moving, excess and obsolete inventory and recommend appropriate reserves
- Review inventory-related payables, including received-not-invoiced accruals and three-way match exceptions
- Prepare and review inventory journal entries, account reconciliations and fluctuation analysis
- Play a key role in the monthly and year-end close process
- Maintain strong internal controls surrounding inventory and provide technical accounting guidance when needed
- Partner directly with external auditors on inventory testing, count observations and supporting schedules
- Develop reporting around inventory turns, aging, margins and purchasing trends
- Work closely with purchasing, warehouse and operations teams to address receiving, pricing and costing issues
ERP transformation
The company is transitioning to a new ERP system, making this an especially interesting time to join.
You won't be responsible for leading the implementation, but you will be the accounting subject-matter expert for inventory throughout the conversion. You'll help define accounting requirements, participate in testing, validate converted inventory data and help document new processes.
What we're looking for
- Active CPA license in good standing is required
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong, hands-on inventory accounting experience within a high-volume distribution, wholesale, manufacturing or similar inventory-heavy environment
- Deep understanding of inventory costing, reserves and subledger-to-GL reconciliations
- Solid month-end close, audit support and internal controls experience
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience working within a mid-market or enterprise ERP environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with both accounting professionals and operational partners who may not have an accounting background
Even better if you have
- ERP implementation or conversion experience, particularly involving inventory or distribution
- Experience training, mentoring or leading accounting staff
- Distribution, utilities or other inventory-intensive industry experience
Why consider it?
