Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Senior Accounting Clerk to support routine to moderately complex accounting tasks. You will process transactions, maintain records, assist with reconciliations, and help with month-end and year-end close.

The role offers growth within a leading healthcare system and opportunities for process improvements. Ideal candidates have an Associate’s in Finance/Accounting or related field with 3+ years of experience, strong Excel and accounting software skills,

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3+ years of relevant accounting experience.
Bachelor’s degree preferred; work experience may substitute for degree.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Ability to identify discrepancies and escalate appropriately.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Intermediate-level Excel skills, including formulas, sorting, filtering, and basic data organization.
Proficiency with accounting systems and standard Office applications.
Ability to follow established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.

Responsibilities

Performs routine accounting duties in accordance with established policies and controls.
Executes accounting and financial transactions, including billing, vendor invoices, deposits, and cash receipts.
Maintains accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
Records, verifies, and processes accounting transactions within timelines.
Performs reconciliations and researches routine discrepancies.
Reviews transactions for completeness and compliance.
Escalates discrepancies to appropriate team members.
Assists with month-end and year-end close and supporting documentation.
Prepares financial statements, management reports, and reconciliations.
Provides information for internal reviews and external reporting.
