Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP principles required.
• Experience with SAP, QuickBooks, or similar GL systems preferred.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; attention to detail.
• Ability to work with limited supervision; cross-functional collaboration and ethical standards.

General Purpose:

This position is a key member of the water accounting team, reporting directly to the Accounting Manager of the water company. This position plays a critical role in collaborating with water subsidiaries as well as company’s parent company’s Financial Reporting and Consolidation teams to ensure high-quality internal and external financial reports. This position will report directly to company's Accounting Manager. The position will participate in all accounting functions including preparation of monthly journal entries, intercompany transactions, and monthly reconciliations.

Position Essential Functions:

• Key contributor in monthly closing process: Preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations and working closely with the water subsidiaries in assisting them with their closing processes.
• Assist with intercompany reconciliations.
• Completes internal control procedures to ensure compliance with SOX requirements.
• Demonstrates appropriate leadership and decision-making behaviors.
• Maintain technical accounting knowledge and personal skill development.
• Lead, contribute to, or participate in ad hoc projects as required.
• Support the Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.

Requirements

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA certificate are preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of applied accounting experience. Public accounting experience is preferred.
• Experience in a utility operation and knowledge of standard utility accounting and public utility reporting and filing requirements desired but not required.
• Strong knowledge and experience in applying U.S. GAAP principles are required.
• Experience using SAP, QuickBooks, or another general ledger or other financial software system is preferred.
• Strong analytical skills are required, including the ability to critically think and apply technical accounting knowledge to business requirements, including understanding the impacts of decisions made.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Requires strong attention to detail while keeping the big picture in mind.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
• Requires outstanding ethical standards and values consistent with those of the Company.
