Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics is seeking an experienced accounting professional in Los Angeles, CA to lead financial close processes and maintain SOX-compliant controls. You will partner with Investor Relations, Legal, Treasury, Tax, and IT to ensure timely SEC filings, while preparing areas for 8-K, Proxy, 10-Q, and 10-K.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, 3+ years of financial accounting experience, and strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP/SOX.

  • 3+ years of financial accounting experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX compliance.
  • Ability to execute complex monthly/quarterly close processes.
  • Strong organizational skills; accuracy and detail orientation; ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Strong communication skills; highest level of integrity.
  • Adaptable, excellent team player; self-motivated and eager to learn.
  • Ability for occasional travel between company locations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and SOX control requirements.
  • Partner with Investor Relations, Legal, Treasury, Tax, and IT to ensure timely and accurate SEC filings.
  • Prepare assigned areas for Forms 8-K, Proxy, 10-Q, and 10-K.
  • Analyze variances between periods and/or budgeted vs. actual results.
  • Assist audit processes by preparing internal reports and liaising with internal/external auditors.
  • Prepare disclosure checklists and tie-outs of financial statements and footnotes.
  • Prepare audit committee/disclosure committee support materials.
  • Maintain reporting calendars and filing timelines.
  • Perform month-end close and balance reconciliations (e.g., debt, equity, lease, and EPS disclosures).
  • Collaborate to resolve accounting questions/issues; improve accounting systems/programs/procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain SOX-compliant controls for responsible accounts; ensure proper execution and documentation.
  • Perform other accounting duties as required.

Preferred
  • Technical accounting experience in life sciences/biotech/pharma.
  • Big 4 experience.
  • Public company experience and CPA.
  • Experience with Workiva and ERP systems.
Compensation / Benefits
  • California pay range: $100,000–$115,000.
  • Competitive salaries and an excellent benefits package.
