Job summary

City of Rochester, NY is seeking a Senior Accountant responsible for designing, implementing, and updating accounting procedures and business office systems. You will oversee complex ledgers and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements. Under the NY HELPS Program, the Civil Service Exam for this title has been waived.

City residency will be required within one year of hire. Supervisory responsibilities may extend to Accountants and clerical staff, with involvement in grants

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting with required credentials and two years of accounting or auditing experience.
• Bachelor's in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field with at least 18 accounting credits and three years of accounting/auditing experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensures accounting procedures and records meet Federal, State and local requirements.
• Supervises or participates in reconciling subsystems with automated accounting systems.
• Prepares government grant applications and audits of grants.
• Develops and updates financial reports using spreadsheet/database software.
• Trains staff in accounting activities and procedures.
