Job summary

Straughan Environmental, Inc. in Columbia, MD is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform full-cycle accounting, monthly closings, and financial statement preparation.

The role supports the Controller and requires strong GAAP knowledge and at least five years of experience in professional accounting, with public accounting a plus. This position manages project setups in Unanet, prepares project and management reports, handles AP, payroll, AR, and assists with audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience; public accounting preferred.
• CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
• Strong GAAP knowledge.
• Experience with government contracting (FAR) a plus.
• Experience with project-based accounting and various contract types (cost-plus, T&M, fixed-price).

Responsibilities

• Month-end closing procedures and journal entries.
• Prepare accrual schedules and review trial balance.
• Perform reconciliations and analyze income statements.
• Assist with external audits and overhead rate/W-2/1099 processes.
• Maintain project setup in Unanet and generate monthly reports.
• Review accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable processes.
