Job summary

The Robert Joseph Group seeks a Senior Accountant to manage advanced accounting functions and support GAAP-compliant financial reporting for a nonprofit organization. You will collaborate with the Controller on monthly closes, audits, and internal controls to improve efficiency.

Key areas include AP/AR processing, general ledger maintenance, fixed assets, and preparation of statements and management reports. On-site Arlington, VA position with professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
• Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and work independently and collaboratively.
• A high degree of professionalism, humility, and a commitment to learning and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Process vendor invoices, employee expense reports, and payments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintain vendor files, W-9s, and ensure proper coding of expenses to programs and cost centers.
• Record Revenue from Bank Deposits, Stock Donations and Credit Card Charges.
• Reconcile AP and AR subledgers to the general ledger.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, allocations, and standard month-end entries.
• Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts, credit cards, prepaids, and accruals.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and internal management reports.
• Maintain the fixed asset schedule, record additions, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
• Track prepaid expenses and ensure accurate monthly amortization.
• Support the annual external audit by preparing schedules, responding to auditor requests, and ensuring documentation accuracy.
• Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit accounting best practices.
• Assist the Controller in streamlining accounting processes and improving internal controls.
• Utilize QuickBooks for daily accounting functions and contribute to system maintenance and optimization.
