Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) seeks an Accountant 3 to oversee the Hybrid Plan accounting, DC investments, and annual tax forms production. You will supervise an Accountant 2, coordinate with consultants, and provide reporting to senior management while strengthening internal controls.

This role combines advanced accounting with leadership in a state agency environment.

Qualifications

• One year as an Accountant 2 or equivalent Commonwealth/Federal government title.
• Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience with a four-year degree and accounting credits.
• Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation; a Master’s may substitute for one year of general work experience.
• PA residency requirement.
• Must be able to perform Essential Functions as presented in the Position Description.
• A conditional offer of employment requires criminal history checks.

Responsibilities

• Investment Reporting: Prepare and review investment reports covering financial performance and a variety of investment transactions.
• Account Reconciliation: Verify reconciliations, analyze general ledger accounts, and resolve routine and complex investment accounting issues.
• Team Leadership: Direct and oversee the work of an Accountant 2 while supporting daily accounting operations and staff development.
• Financial Implementation: Coordinate with consultants, administrators, and internal teams to support financial management activities for new hybrid plans.
• Tax Form Support: Assist with the analysis, compilation, reconciliation, and production of annual 1099-R tax forms for a large recipient population.
• Control Monitoring: Develop and maintain controls that help detect misuse or loss of funds and monitor third-party plan administration activities.

Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
