Legado Talent, based in Portland, OR, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support corporate accounting, grant accounting, and financial reporting activities. The role focuses on maintaining accurate records, applying revenue-recognition standards, and ensuring grant compliance.

The Senior Accountant will collaborate with finance, program, fundraising, and operations teams to promote financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and transparency across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• At least four years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting, grant accounting, or restricted funds preferred.
• Experience with revenue recognition, grant compliance, audit preparation, and financial reporting preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP and applicable nonprofit accounting standards.
• Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
• Strong general-ledger, reconciliation, and financial-reporting skills.
• Ability to interpret grant agreements, funding restrictions, and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile grant, contribution, and restricted-funding activity monthly.
• Record grant revenue and charitable contributions in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
• Maintain deferred-revenue schedules and detailed grant reconciliation records.
• Monitor funding activity for compliance with grant agreements and donor restrictions.
• Prepare financial reports, reimbursement requests, invoices, and other documentation required by funders.
• Assist internal teams with grant budgets, financial projections, and proposal submissions.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting.
• Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Reconcile balance-sheet accounts and investigate unusual or outstanding items.
• Maintain fixed-asset, debt, and other financial schedules.
• Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Assist with the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
• Ensure accounting activity complies with GAAP, funding requirements, and organizational policies.
• Prepare annual audit workpapers, account schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Respond to auditor requests and assist with coordinating audit-related activities.
• Review financial records for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate documentation.
• Help maintain effective internal controls and consistent accounting procedures.
• Support compliance reporting related to grants, contributions, and restricted funds.
• Partner with fundraising, program, operational, and finance teams on budgeting and financial reporting.
• Assist with the development of grant budgets and the organization’s annual operating budget.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external service providers to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to accounting and finance leadership.
• Communicate financial requirements and reporting deadlines clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
