Job summary

The Maryland Department of Labor in Hunt Valley, MD seeks an Advanced Accountant to analyze agency accounting systems, apply GAAP, and maintain budgets across multiple funding sources. The role provides fiscal guidance to management and collaborates with federal and state offices.

The position requires strong Excel/Google Sheets skills, attention to detail, and experience in budgeting, auditing, and financial reporting. A public sector background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with three credit hours in auditing.
• Three years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems and reports.
• Substitution options: BA with 30 accounting credits including auditing.
• CPA or master’s in accounting may substitute for one year of experience.
• One year of professional auditing may substitute for one year of experience.
• Military service as commissioned officer in Accounting/Finance may substitute for experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop, draft, and prepare state budget and federal grant applications.
• Monitor funding opportunities and revise documents to obtain/deobligate funds.
• Prepare internal projection sheets for comparison to OOA projections.
• Monitor monthly procurement transactions and allocate to budgets.
• Assist with daily procurement and grant drawdowns, liaising with OOA/OGS.
