Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements using general ledger software.
  • Research and resolve unusual or irregular transactions.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, prepare analyses and complete monthly GL closing procedures.
  • Analyze GL accounts to identify unusual transactions and make recommendations.
  • Prepare and review reports of financial information for management.
  • Respond to internal/external auditor issues and problems.
  • Research GAAP issues related to cost allocations and financial statements.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Assist in training others.
  • Resolve complex accounting problems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description Summary

Lead the process of setting business targets and monitoring business performance, advise on the financial consequences of major decisions, lead the process of reporting financial and managerial data, and make recommendations targeted at improving and safeguarding financial results.

Under limited supervision, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to prepare financial statements and other financial analysis reports for complex business units and to analyze and reconcile all general ledger accounts.

Limited guidance is provided to perform varied, complex accounting functions with responsibility for making extremely complex decisions.

Evaluation, originality and ingenuity are required to locate, select and apply appropriate procedures, processes and techniques to specific assignments.

Resolves or recommends solutions to complex problems.

Regular contact with senior management and other internal customers is required to identify, research, and resolve accounting issues and problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Uses general ledger accounting software to prepare monthly financial statements and reports.
  • Researches and makes recommendations to resolve unusual or irregular transactions.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts, prepares analyses and completes other monthly general ledger closing procedures.
  • Analyzes general ledger accounts to identify unusual or irregular transactions and makes recommendations to resolve.
  • Prepares/reviews reports of financial information for management.
  • Responds to internal/external auditor issues and problems.
  • Researches issues regarding application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to allocating costs and preparing financial statements.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements to increase efficiency in processing or analyzing financial information.
  • Assists in training others.
  • Resolves complex accounting problems.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge of:
  • Advanced accounting concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Accounting software packages.
  • Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Skill in:
  • Reviewing, interpreting and analyzing financial statements.
  • Resolving unusual transaction and accounting discrepancies.
  • Preparing financial statements and management reports.
  • Researching GAAP issues.

Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications to produce correspondence, reports, electronic communication, spreadsheets and complex databases.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred) with two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in preparing and analyzing financial information. Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.

Licenses/Certifications:

CPA preferred.
