Job summary

Northern Trust is seeking a senior accounting professional for the Corporate Controller's Group in Chicago. The role focuses on capitalized software, fixed assets, and IT investments, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

You will partner with Technology, PMO, Procurement, and BU Finance to deliver accurate financial reporting, oversee asset lifecycles, and support SOX programs in a dynamic, hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• CPA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Public accounting experience a plus.
• Experience with PeopleSoft GL, Hyperion Financial Management, Clarity PPM, and Trintech Certification is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise financial accounting over capital expenditures, fixed assets, and capitalized software, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SOX.
• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of fixed assets and software investments, including capitalization and depreciation.
• Review IT investment spending, procurement requisitions, and project funding changes for proper accounting.
• Evaluate vendor contracts and software agreements for accounting treatment and financial impact.
• Prepare board reporting, SEC reporting, and financial statement disclosures.
• Maintain and enhance SOX documentation and control narratives.
