Client Overview

Our client, a nonprofit organization with a legacy dating back to 1905, is dedicated to advancing research, public health, and patient care. They are looking to hire a Senior Accountant to join their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$35/hr - $45/hr

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in monitoring, reconciling, and analyzing the organization's financial activities, with a strong focus on grant accounting. This role is newly created due to organizational growth and will report directly to senior finance leadership. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with 10+ years of experience and a strong background in nonprofit grant accounting, particularly city and foundation grants.

Responsibilities Of The Senior Accountant

• Oversee and ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance for general ledger and financial transactions.
• Reconcile activity in subsystems (Stripe, PayPal, Braintree, credit card/bank systems).
• Liaise with internal departments (e.g., Development) to resolve data discrepancies.
• Review contracts and agreements for revenue recognition.
• Budget, track, and report on individual grant financial activity.
• Ensure financial compliance with various grant requirements.
• Perform monthly cash reconciliations and maintain cash handling procedures.
• Monitor receivables/payables; resolve significant delinquencies.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and audit schedules.
• Identify and address internal control weaknesses.
• Prepare and file non-disbursement tax returns (e.g., sales tax, UBIT).
• Support year-end audits and IRS/government inquiries.
• Contribute to special projects and system implementations.
  
  

Required Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:

• 10+ years of accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit and grant accounting (city and foundation grants experience required). MUST be out of Non-Profit.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with financial databases and accounting systems.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ethical conduct and ability to handle sensitive information.
  
  

Preferred Experience/Skills for the Senior Accountant:

• Experience with Intacct accounting software.
• Knowledge of federal grants is a plus (though the organization is currently shifting focus to city/foundation grants).
  
  

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is required.
