Job Title:Senior Accountant

Company Description:
Greater Good Health is a community of healthcare providers, operators, and builders whose mission is to address health disparities and reimagine senior healthcare. To do this, we partner with payers to bring value-based primary care to underserved communities and work alongside risk-bearing organizations to develop innovative, value-based clinical programs – all designed exclusively for older adults and their unique healthcare needs.

Grounded in our mission and core values, we are building a better, simpler healthcare experience for the patients we serve and the providers who care for them.

If this vision resonates with you, we hope you consider bringing your passion, your energy, your curiosity to Greater Good Health.

The Opportunity:
We’re currently seeking a Sr. Accountant to join us as our first in-house accounting hire. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced, self-motivated professional to lay the foundation of our accounting function and grow alongside a dynamic, fast-paced, impact-driven startup that’s changing healthcare for the better. Our ideal candidate will be analytical, collaborative, and scrappy. The candidate MUST be obsessed with continuous improvement, exhibiting a growth mindset personally/professionally, while driving to create continual improvements to our accounting processes and capabilities.

As an early hire on our Accounting Team, this role will come with a ton of autonomy, a broad scope, and will allow you to put your fingerprints on our processes as we build it from the ground up. From day one, you will have an impact on the efficiency and effectiveness of our daily operations, and a lasting influence on our growth plans. You will have high leadership visibility, and lots of room for advancement within Greater Good Health.

Responsibilities:

  • As our Sr. Accountant, you’ll be both a hands-on contributor and a strategic thinker. You’ll take ownership of core accounting operations, implement processes and systems, and work closely with leadership to help us scale responsibly. Your day-to-day will include
  • Owning the full accounts payable process, from invoice intake to payment execution, ensuring timely and accurate processing
  • Preparing for and managing audit processes, including gathering supporting documentation, coordinating with external auditors, and ensuring timely responses to audit inquiries
  • Supporting tax compliance by collaborating with external tax team to provide schedules, reconciliations, and documentation needed for federal, state, and local tax filings (income, franchise, sales/use, etc.)
  • Supporting the accounts receivable process, including tracking receivables, reconciling payments, and communicating with customers as needed
  • Leading the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Overseeing payroll processing, including reviewing payroll for accuracy, proper tax withholdings, and benefit deductions, while ensuring compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensuring payroll compliance and reporting, including oversight of payroll tax filings (e.g., 941s, W-2s, 1099s), staying current on relevant legal and regulatory updates, and supporting internal and external payroll audits.
  • Reconciling payroll-related accounts and ensuring accurate integration with the general ledger, including variance analysis and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Establishing and documenting accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP and relevant tax/regulatory requirements
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning efforts
  • Manage state expansion efforts to ensure we can operate, generate revenue and hire team members in new states
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with teams like People, Legal, and Tech
  • Evaluating and implementing accounting tools and software to support efficiency and scale
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • A strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Hands-on experience managing AP and supporting AR processes
  • Familiarity with audit prep and working directly with external auditors
  • Experience supporting tax compliance and coordinating with third-party tax providers
  • Experience in startups or healthcare is a plus
  • CPA preferred, but not required
What Will Make You Successful at GGH:
  • If you “bring it” every day and are continually hungry to learn, share, and tackle challenges.
  • You thrive in an environment that champions learning, growth, agency, and autonomy. We support each team member to work at the “top of their license” and find fulfillment in their work.
  • We can trust that your words and actions align. We own our mistakes and share our learning with others. We think and act with consideration for people, time, rules, resources, ethics, and GGH’s success.

  • Voluntary Insurance plans:We offer voluntary short term disability, critical illness and accident plans foradditional financial security during periods of illness or injury that prevent you from working for a set period of time
Don’t check off every box in the requirements listed above? Please apply anyway! Studies have shown that marginalized communities - such as women, LGBTQ+ and people of color - are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. GGH is dedicated to building an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and accessible workplace that fosters a sense of belonging – so if you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to still consider applying.
