Job summary

The Humane Society of Missouri seeks a Senior Accountant to support animal welfare by applying solid accounting expertise in a mission-driven nonprofit. You will manage biweekly payroll, fixed assets, reconciliations, and internal controls while supervising two staff and collaborating with the CFO.

In addition, you will contribute to budget analyses, year-end work, and support for gift shop operations and inventory, reinforcing the organization’s 150+ year legacy of service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 3+ years of general accounting experience
• Some supervisory or lead experience required
• Experience with Microsoft-Business Central desired
• Organized and strong communicator
• Relationship builder and loves animals
• Must love animals

Responsibilities

• Create and post biweekly payroll journal and analyze all payroll related accounts
• Maintain fixed asset system and posting of monthly depreciation expense
• Coordinate all credit card processing and terminals at 3 locations
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts
• Supervise two people
• Review and analyze balance sheet accounts and reconcile subsidiary systems to the general ledger
• Utilize and update the electronic accounting filing system (Docuware)
• Maintain the Accounting Procedures manual and coordinate updates
• Document and review internal controls with CFO
• Assist in analyses and budgets
• Assist in year-end audit schedules
• Serve as back-up for payroll processing
• Support gift shop operations and inventory
• Be part of the 150+ legacy of the Humane Society of Missouri

What you'll do:

• Create and post biweekly payroll journal and analyze all payroll related accounts
• Maintain fixed asset system and posting of monthly depreciation expense
• Coordinate all credit card processing and terminals at 3 locations
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts
• Supervise two people
• Review and analyze balance sheet accounts, making adjustments and corrections as necessary, including reconciliation of subsidiary systems to the general ledger:
  • Fixed assets to GL
  • Raiser's Edge to GL
  • Construction in process
  • Capital budget to GL
• Utilizes and update the electronic accounting filing system (Docuware)
• Maintain the Accounting Procedures manual, coordinating updates as needed
• Document and review internal controls in coordination with CFO on an ongoing basis
• Assist in various analyses and projects, including budget preparation
• Assist in the preparation of year-end audit schedules
• Serve as a back-up for payroll processing
• Support gift shop operations and inventory
• Be a part of the 150+ legacy of the Humane Society of Missouri

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting and at least three years general accounting experience
• Some supervisory or lead experience required
• Experience with Microsoft-Business Central is desired
• Organized
