Under the supervision and direction of the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting functions that ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This role supports the organization’s financial operations through month‑end close activities, account reconciliations, grant and contract accounting, financial analysis, and compliance with internal controls. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial data and supporting the Finance Director in implementing best practices and improving financial systems.

SSF embraces technology to develop ongoing efficiencies. Currently, the office is a hybrid operation. This is a hybrid position and will require you to report to the office periodically.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares and posts journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepares bank reconciliations and supports cash management as needed.
  • Maintains general ledger accuracy and ensures proper classification of all transactions.
  • Maintains and reconciles prepaid expense schedules, ensuring all entries are accurate, properly classified, and updated in a timely manner.
  • Manages investment schedules, accurately recording all investment transactions, interest, gains, and losses, and ensures proper reporting in accordance with organizational policies and accounting standards.
  • Assists with month‑end and year‑end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Oversees Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, ensuring timely processing, accurate coding, and proper documentation.
  • Performs monthly account reconciliations, including cash, receivables, payables, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Oversees grant billings and supports compliance with funder requirements.
  • Assists in preparing financial reports required by funders or regulatory agencies.
  • Supports annual external audit by preparing schedules, explanations, and documentation.
  • Supports preparation of income tax filings, schedules, disclosures and documentation.
  • Assists the Finance Director in implementing new financial systems or process enhancements.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Performs financial analysis and supports ad‑hoc projects as assigned.
  • Assists in maintaining and strengthening internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, federal and state regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Provides functional oversight to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff by reviewing work, offering guidance, ensuring accuracy, and supporting adherence to financial policies and procedures.
  • Regular, predictable attendance is required.
  • Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Ideal Candidates
  • Advanced knowledge and skill with MS Excel is required.
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online is required.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four‑year college or university and at least 5 years in a Senior accounting role.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation range $38.46 to $42.67; planned maximum is at the mid‑range at hire, depending on qualifications and experience (DOE). This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position with benefits; health, dental, and vision, 401k, accrued time off and paid holidays.
