Outside-i in Portland, OR seeks a Senior Accountant to oversee the general ledger and financial statements for management. You will supervise accounts payable/receivable and the accounting staff, coordinating closely with the Payroll administrator to ensure accurate, timely reporting.

The role requires ensuring GAAP compliance, supporting budgeting and audits, and preparing state/federal filings. You will manage payroll for ~200 employees and assist with program budgets and grant reporting.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or equivalent education.
  • Successful supervision of a diverse team.
  • COVID-19 vaccination status or approved exception on file is required.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting and government contracts (preferred).

Job description

The Senior Accountant position oversees and maintains the general ledger and financial records and statements for management.Essential DutiesSupervise and manage accounts payable, receivable, and accounting staff. Work closely with Payroll administrator. Provide timely feedback to staff and ensure open lines of communication.Ensure all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems are following appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.Maintains and balances service revenue subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies.Supports all financial, project/program and funding source accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with funding source and program budgets throughout the contract period for government, corporate, and foundation grants.Conducts monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.Assists with budget preparation and monitoring, account analyses, internal, and external reports, audits and preparation of state and federal financial filings.Assists with annual external audit; complete requested materials; and prepare assigned schedules to ensure successful audit results and compliance.Advises programs in the assignment of accounting codes, credit card transactions, and various other related financial activities.Documents policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.Review and validate semimonthly payroll for approximately 200 employeesPrepares payroll cost allocations per budget and funder requirements.Review hours worked in the Time & Attendance system and resolve unusual items/exceptions with employees. Follow-up with non-compliant employees and supervisors.Review payroll reports and validate information including any changes to employee payroll data (new employees, departures, non-standard compensation, changes, etc.).Review and approve entries prepared by payroll administrator to account for semimonthly payroll.Contributes to department and organization special projects as assigned.Knowledge and SkillsKnowledgeKnowledge of accounting practices includes coordination of accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payroll accounting.SkillsDemonstrated excellent skills in written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate data clearly. Ability to display non-judgmental attitude.Ability to work independently with willingness to take initiative in addressing concerns and issues for desired outcomes.Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of the members of the team.Interpersonal skills to effectively train, mentor, and retain a diverse team, with foresight and ability to effectively delegate.Ability to manage competing priorities utilizing excellent organizational skills and good time management.Technology savvy with proficiency in use of Accounting Software and web applications related to accounting functions (e.g. MIP, Microix, QuickBooks).Advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, Excel.Proficient in use of Windows Server.Education, Experience, and Other Required QualificationsDegree in Accounting or equivalent education.Successful experience in supervision of a diverse team.Proof of COVID-19 vaccination status or approved medical or religious exception on file is required.Desired but Not RequiredExperience in nonprofit accounting.Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in workplace and community settings.Experience working for a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).Experience working with government contracts and grants.Working ConditionsThis job is in a standard office environment at our office located at 1201 SW 12th Ave Portland, OR 97205 and remotely.Physical RequirementsThis job requires extensive computer work as well as operating phones and other office equipment. Communicating is required on a regular basis. Moving inside the building to other offices spaces as well as moving to surrounding sites is expected.
