Job description

Department: Corporate

Location: Corporate- Dallas

Compensation: $85,000 - $110,000 / year

Description

Apara Autism Centers is seeking a motivated, high-performing Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role is a key owner of the company's accounting function, with primary responsibility for driving the month-end close and managing core accounting activities across the general ledger, accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance.

We're looking for someone with strong accounting fundamentals who takes ownership of problems through resolution, looks for ways to make processes more efficient and scalable, and wants to grow their accounting, business, and leadership skills. You'll partner closely with the VP of Finance, with direct exposure to the broader Finance function and strategic initiatives, and a clear path to take on greater scope as our accounting function matures.

Success in this role means producing accurate, well-supported financial information, driving a reliable and efficient close, and continually strengthening the processes behind the numbers.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Lead the execution of the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, prepaids, fixed assets, and other general ledger activity.

  • Maintain accurate supporting schedules, investigate unusual transactions and reconciling items, and ensure issues are resolved on a timely basis.

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting and partner with the VP of Finance to analyze results and continually improve the speed, accuracy, and consistency of the close.

Accounting Operations & Compliance

  • Manage core accounting operations across accounts payable, vendor management, employee expenses, corporate cards, banking activity, cash transactions, and related reconciliations.

  • Reconcile payroll, payroll taxes, and benefits accounts.

  • Coordinate resolution of state payroll notices, registrations, unemployment matters, and other agency correspondence.

  • Own recurring payment and vendor reporting processes, including 1099 compliance, while maintaining appropriate documentation and controls.

Revenue & Business Partnership

  • Perform and improve monthly revenue and receivables accounting, including reconciliation of billing, collection, and operational data to the general ledger.

  • Partner with Revenue Cycle, HR, Operations, and other teams to investigate discrepancies, understand underlying business activity, and drive issues through resolution.

  • Prepare accounting schedules and documentation supporting audits, tax compliance, financial diligence, and other external reporting needs.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Play a central role in bringing key accounting processes in-house and building a scalable, well-controlled accounting function.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and strengthen accounting processes across QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Paycom, CentralReach, Excel, and related tools.

Growth Path

This role is designed to grow. As our accounting function scales alongside the business, we expect this position to take on increasing exposure and responsibility across budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, systems, and controls — with a clear trajectory toward Accounting Manager or Controller-level responsibility for the right person

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.

  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with large, complex data sets.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and core accounting principles.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial transactions and reporting.

  • Excellent ability to organize work, manage deadlines, investigate issues, and drive work through completion with limited supervision.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across teams and with external stakeholders.

  • Curiosity and a desire to continue learning, take on additional responsibility, and improve existing processes.

Prefered Skills:

  • CPA license or active progress toward CPA certification.

  • Public accounting experience.

  • Prior accounting experience in a healthcare organization.

  • Experience supporting multi-location services, or a private equity-backed organization.
