Job summary

SmartRent, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a Senior Accountant to maintain financial integrity and support accounting operations. You will prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports while implementing internal controls and process improvements.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of accounting experience and a professional accounting qualification such as a CPA. A strong focus on detail and communication skills is required, and familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.

Job Description

The Senior Accountant will be a key part of the Company’s accounting operations. The role will be responsible for accurate recording of accounting information; implementing and maintaining controls; and developing and implementing sustainable process improvements within the accounting department. This critical role will report to the Assistant Corporate Controller and have frequent interaction and work collaboratively with functions across the organization to ensure accurate and timely reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the integrity of financial data by preparing journal entries, reconciliations, financial reports, and detailed analyses.
  • Responsible for ad hoc projects and assisting with researching technical accounting and reporting matters, accounting principles, and financial reporting rules.
  • Perform daily cash reconciliations to monitor liquidity and ensure accurate positioning
  • Prepare monthly consolidation (including foreign subsidiary)
  • Compile comprehensive documentation to facilitate seamless quarterly reviews and annual external audits
  • Assist with the preparation of annual and quarterly financial statements with associated footnotes, in strict accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Participate in the design, evaluation, and execution of the operating effectiveness of our internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Monitor appropriate policies to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other statutory requirements, including the analysis and documentation of technical accounting issues.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Professional accounting qualification with strong technical accounting skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with a track record of building effective cross-functional relationships
  • Strategic, forward-thinking mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies, propose solutions, and anticipate obstacles
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Public accounting experience, including Big 4 or comparable firm
  • Familiarity with SaaS business models and related accounting considerations
  • Proficiency with NetSuite
  • Ability to assess and adapt accounting organizational structures to support current and evolving business needs
