Job summary

Ports North is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the accounting team during a period of transition and centralization. This is a 3-6 month contract with a strong possibility to convert to full-time, with a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days per week onsite in the Bronx, NY.

Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, fixed assets, audit support, and collaboration with the Controller.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and ERP proficiency.

• Own assigned areas of the month-end close process across multiple business units
• Assist with centralization of accounting functions from individual business units into the corporate accounting team
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity and supporting schedules
• Prepare documentation and provide support for internal and external audit requests
• Partner with the Controller and broader accounting team on ad hoc projects and process improvements

We have partnered with our client in their search for a Senior Accountant to support their accounting team during a period of transition and centralization. This is a 3-6 month contract opportunity with good change to convert full time, with a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days per week onsite in the Bronx, NY.

Responsibilities

• Support general accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and fixed assets
• Own assigned areas of the month-end close process across multiple business units
• Assist with the ongoing centralization of accounting functions from individual business units into the corporate accounting team
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity and supporting schedules
• Prepare documentation and provide support for internal and external audit requests
• Partner with the Controller and broader accounting team on ad hoc projects and process improvements

Skills Required

• Strong general ledger and month-end close experience
• Strong account reconciliation and accrual experience
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas
• Comfortable interacting with internal and external auditors
• ERP experience required
• Fixed asset and/or manufacturing accounting experience is a plus

Education & Work Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred
