Nellis Auction, headquartered in Las Vegas, NV, seeks a Senior Accountant to manage month-end close, financial reporting, cost and inventory accounting, and tax compliance. The role partners with Operations and reports to the Director of Accounting, supporting CFO and senior leaders during rapid growth.

You will lead inventory counts, develop analyses, and collaborate with external auditors to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required; CPA preferred, MBA a plus.
• 4+ years progressive accounting experience; at least 2 years under a Controller.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP and tax accounting principles.
• Experience leading inventory count processes and cost accounting.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the monthly close process with accurate journal entries and supported analysis.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations for inventory, fixed assets, and payroll.
• Own cost and inventory functions within accounting and support core GL close.
• Maintain cost accounting activities including standard/actual costs, inventory management and freight tracking.
• Lead regular inventory counts with Operations to improve inventory accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax policies, and ASC 842 lease accounting.
• Support internal and external audits and provide management with meaningful spreadsheet analyses.
• Contribute to ad-hoc month-end, audit, and internal control projects as required.

Key responsibilities of this position

The Senior Accountant contributes to Nellis' overall success by ensuring that accounting, cost, and inventory processes are efficient, compliant, and accurate. This role directly impacts the Company's ability to manage its month-end close process, financial reporting, cost and inventory management, and tax and compliance obligations. Partnering with Operations, this position will also lead, monitor, and execute regular inventory counts. This position will report directly to the Director of Accounting and will support the Senior Controller and CFO/other senior leaders in a pivotal role to support Nellis’ exponential growth.

• Participate and drive activities related to the monthly close process, including accurate & timely preparation of journal entries (supported by well-documented analysis) and the timely research/resolution of various business matters that have accounting implications
• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and analysis on a monthly basis, including but not limited to inventory, fixed assets, and payroll accounts
• Own and lead the cost and inventory functions within the accounting team, in addition to core general ledger and month-end close responsibilities
• Responsible for cost accounting-related activities, including maintaining accurate standard/actual costs, inventory management and purchasing, and freight tracking/monitoring
• Partner with Operations to lead, monitor, and execute the regular inventory count process for improved inventory accuracy
• Perform functions in accordance with applicable company, GAAP, and tax policies and procedures
• Maintain lease accounting schedules in compliance with ASC 842
• Provide technical support to leadership and outside auditors
• Provide meaningful analysis to management by developing spreadsheet reports
• Assist in coordinating with internal/external audit and tax requests, and support ad-hoc month-end, audit, and internal controls compliance projects as requested
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred (MBA a plus)
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years working under a Controller
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP and tax accounting principles
• Experience leading, monitoring, and executing inventory count processes, with a solid understanding of the inventory environment and its associated financial processes
• Knowledge of supply chain, receiving, inventory flow, operations, process, and distribution principles
• Strong proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems, with the ability to analyze transactional-level detail and articulate key findings to management
• Advanced Excel skills, including experience with financial modeling and data visualization
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities and attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with both finance and non-finance stakeholders
• Excellent project and time management abilities able to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced work environment
