Zero is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their Edison, NJ finance team within a leading furniture retail organization. This role involves managing month-end close, financial reporting, and supporting strategic initiatives within a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in accounting, CPA preferred, and a minimum of 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience. Competitive salary package of $95,000-$115,000 annually based on experience.

KeyResponsibilities

• Month-EndClose&FinancialReporting:CoordinateandexecutemonthlyandquarterlycloseactivitiesinaccordancewithGAAP—includingpreparingandpostingjournalentries,reconcilingandanalyzingbalancesheetaccounts,andproducingaccurateinternalfinancialstatementsandmanagementreports.
• Variance&BudgetAnalysis:Analyzeandexplainbudget-to-actualvariancesandperiod-over-periodfinancialchangesonamonthly,quarterly,andannualbasis,providingclear,actionableinsightstoleadershiptosupportbusinessdecision-making.
• StoreOperationsAccounting:Manageaccountingactivitiesrelatedtonewstoreopenings,relocations,andmonthlyrentandoccupancycostanalysisacrossallretaillocations,ensuringaccuracyandalignmentwithoperationaldecisions.
• Lease&FixedAssetManagement:OverseeleaseaccountingunderASC842,includingevaluationofnewandmodifiedcontracts,preparationofrequiredschedules,andmaintenanceofaccuratefixedassetrecords—additions,disposals,depreciation,andreconciliation.
• Sales&UseTaxCompliance:Prepare,file,andanalyzemulti-jurisdictionalsalesandusetaxreturnstoensurecompliancewithstateandlocalregulations;proactivelyidentifydiscrepanciesorriskareas.
• Audit&Compliance:Leadtheannualauditprocessbycoordinatingdirectlywithexternalauditors,preparingsupportingschedules,andensuringtimelyandaccuratesubmissionofallrequireddocumentation.
• System&ProcessOptimization:Identify,design,andimplementimprovementsthatincreaseefficiency,accuracy,automation,andscalabilitywithinaccountingprocesses,ERPsystems,andreportingtools.
• StrategicSupport:PartnerwiththeAccountingManagerandVPofFinanceonbudgeting,forecasting,andadhocfinancialanalysesthatdrivestrategicinitiatives,operationalperformance,andcompanygrowth.

Education&ExperienceRequirements

Education:

• Bachelor'sdegreeinaccountingorfinancerequired;strongfoundationalaccountingknowledgeisessentialforsuccessinthisrole.
• CPAcredentialoractiveprogresstowardCPApreferred,reflectingthetechnicaldepthrequiredforGAAPcompliance,leaseaccounting,auditleadership,andfuturemanagerialresponsibilities.

RequiredExperience:

• 4-7yearsofprogressiveaccountingexperience,ideallywithinaretail,multi-entity,orhigh-volumeoperatingenvironment.
• Demonstratedexpertiseinmonth-endclose,financialstatementpreparation,accountreconciliations,andvarianceanalysis.
• StrongworkingknowledgeofGAAP,includinghands-onexperiencewithleaseaccountingunderASC842andfixedassetaccounting.
• ExperienceutilizingandnavigatingmultipleERPsystems,withtheabilitytotroubleshootissues,streamlineworkflows,andsupportsystemenhancements.
• AdvancedproficiencyintheMicrosoftOfficeSuite,particularlyExcel(pivottables,complexformulas,datamodeling)tosupportanalysisandreportingrequirements.
• Provenexperiencesupportingorleadingauditpreparation,includingdevelopingschedules,reconcilingsupportingdocumentation,andinteractingwithexternalauditors.
• Demonstratedabilitytomentorortrainteammembers,reflectingreadinessforasuccessiontrackintoAccountingManager.

PreferredExperience&TechnicalSkills:

• ExperiencewithPowerBI,PowerQuery,PowerPivot,ordatawarehousereportingtoolstosupportautomation,dashboarding,andenhancedanalytics.
