The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and financial analysis for a portfolio of senior living communities. This role works closely with General Managers, Regional Operations, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Corporate Finance to ensure
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements for assigned communities.
- Complete month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and account reconciliations.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances between actual, budget, and prior-year performance.
- Ensure financial reporting deadlines are met accurately and timely.
- Maintain general ledger integrity and adherence to accounting policies.
Account Reconciliations
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, intercompany accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
- Research and resolve discrepancies and outstanding reconciling items.
- Review prepaid expenses, fixed assets, deposits, and accrued liabilities.
Operational Support
- Partner with community General Manager to review financial performance and provide accounting guidance.
- Support Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, payroll, and cash management processes.
- Review resident billing, census, Referral Fees, occupancy trends, labor expenses, and other key senior living metrics.
- Assist communities with financial questions, coding, and accounting compliance.
Audit and Compliance
- Support annual financial audits and tax-related requests.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
- Assist with regulatory reporting and documentation requirements.
- Maintain organized accounting records and audit support files.
Financial Analysis
- Prepare monthly variance analyses and management reports.
- Monitor financial trends, occupancy, labor costs, agency staffing expenses, and community operating performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
- Provide recommendations to management based on financial results.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
Experience
- 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in senior living, healthcare, hospitality, multi-site operations, or real estate preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Ability to analyze large data sets and identify financial trends.
