Job summary

PHDTech is seeking a senior-level field technician to install, troubleshoot, and commission commercial security systems across the Dallas‑Fort Worth area. You will work independently, solving field problems and delivering professional workmanship at customer sites.

You will report to the Carrollton, Texas office and may travel to other Texas locations. Must have hands-on experience with access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion alarms. Cybersecurity roles are not involved.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on commercial access control, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion alarm, or related electronic security experience.
• Strong understanding of access control wiring, relays, inputs/outputs, power supplies, and door hardware.
• Ability to troubleshoot systems rather than just install devices from instructions.
• Experience with electrified locking hardware and CAT5e/CAT6 cabling.
• Ability to read construction drawings and equipment documentation.
• Comfortable using a multimeter to diagnose electrical issues.

IMPORTANT: This is a hands‑on commercial physical security installation position. This is NOT a cybersecurity, information security, SOC, network security, or IT security role.

We are looking for an experienced field technician who can independently install, troubleshoot, and commission commercial electronic security systems while producing clean, professional work and taking care of the customer.

THE ROLE

This is a senior‑level field position for someone with meaningful hands‑on experience installing commercial access control, IP video surveillance, and intrusion alarm systems.

You should be comfortable working independently, solving problems in the field, and completing installations from device level through system head‑end. Depending on the project, you may also work alongside or help guide less‑experienced technicians.

This position reports to our Carrollton, Texas office and works primarily at customer locations throughout the Dallas‑Fort Worth Metroplex, though occasional travel and overnight stays in other parts of Texas are not infrequent.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Install, service, troubleshoot, and commission commercial access control systems.
• Install and configure IP surveillance cameras and related equipment.
• Install, troubleshoot, and program commercial intrusion alarm systems.
• Install and terminate access control panels, power supplies, readers, door contacts, REX devices, and associated field devices.
• Install and troubleshoot electrified door hardware including electric strikes, maglocks, electrified locksets, electric hinges, and EPTs.
• Work with both fail‑safe and fail‑secure locking hardware.
• Install and configure access control power supplies, relays, and fire‑alarm interfaces.
• Install, terminate, address, and troubleshoot access control head‑end equipment.
• Pull, terminate, label, test, and dress low‑voltage cabling to professional standards.
• Read and work from blueprints, floorplans, wiring diagrams, and project documentation.
• Use a digital multimeter and other test equipment to diagnose power, wiring, communication, and device problems.
• Program, test, and perform customer turnover of installed systems.
• Document completed work accurately, including service notes, photos, testing, and outstanding issues.
• Communicate proactively with customers, project managers, and other team members when conditions in the field affect the project.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.

SYSTEMS WE WORK WITH

Our primary security platforms include:

• Eagle Eye Networks video surveillance
• Bosch/Radionix intrusion alarm systems

Experience with these specific platforms is strongly preferred, but experience with comparable commercial systems such as LenelS2, Genetec, Openpath/Avigilon Alta, Software House, Honeywell, DMP, Alarm.com, Verkada, Hanwha, Axis, or similar systems is also valuable.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 3+ years of hands‑on commercial access control, CCTV/video surveillance, intrusion alarm, or closely related electronic security experience.
• Strong understanding of access control wiring, relays, inputs, outputs, power supplies, and door hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot systems rather than simply install devices from instructions.
• Experience installing and working with electrified locking hardware.
• Ability to independently use a multimeter to troubleshoot voltage, resistance, continuity, shorts, opens, and related electrical issues.
• Ability to read construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
• Experience terminating and testing CAT5e/CAT6 and security cabling.
• Comfortable working on ladders and lifts and performing hands‑on construction work.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, ladders, equipment, and materials required for field installations.
• Valid driver's license and reliable driving record.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any Texas security registration or licensing required for the position.
• Strong communication and customer‑service skills.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

A successful technician at this level isn't just someone who can pull wire and mount equipment.

You can be handed a commercial security installation or service problem, understand what the system is supposed to do, determine how the pieces work together, perform the installation or troubleshoot the issue, test your work, and communicate clearly with the customer and the rest of the team.
