Job summary

Michigan State University’s FRIB Laboratory seeks a visionary Faculty and Academic Staff Human Resources leader to guide academic personnel programs, policy development, and workforce planning in partnership with the Chief Administrative Officer.

You will supervise HR professionals, oversee continuing appointment, reappointment, and promotions processes, advise senior leadership on compliance and risk, and align HR services with FRIB’s mission as a high-availability DOE user facility.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of human resources principles, employment practices, employee relations, and workforce management within higher education or similarly complex organization.
• Knowledge of faculty, academic staff, postdoctoral scholars, graduate assistants, student employment, and continuing appointment employment frameworks and practices.
• Ability to interpret and administer university and laboratory policies governing academic appointments.

Responsibilities

• Directs programs and processes affecting faculty, academic staff, continuing appointment employees, academic specialists, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate assistants.
• Oversees recruitment, appointments, onboarding, reappointment, promotion, continuing appointment, compensation, and separation processes.
• Develops and implements strategies to attract, develop, engage, and retain highly qualified faculty, researchers, and academic personnel.
• Identifies operational issues and develops recommendations for improvement.
