Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is seeking an Academic Affairs Manager to oversee full-time faculty personnel processes, including appointments, tenure, and leaves, ensuring alignment with CUNY policies and contracts.

The role reports to the Associate Dean of Faculty and provides guidance to department chairs and academic leadership through the review and appointment lifecycle, supporting governance and faculty development within a dynamic, diverse urban college setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years' relevant experience required.
  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in faculty affairs, academic administration, or higher education personnel processes.
  • Knowledge of faculty appointment, tenure, and promotion systems within a unionized higher education environment.
  • Experience within the City University of New York (CUNY) or a comparable public higher education system.
  • Familiarity with CUNY Board of Trustees Bylaws, PSC CUNY collective bargaining agreements, and shared governance structures.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff across multiple levels of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all full time faculty personnel processes, including appointments, reappointments, tenure, promotion, pre tenure review, and academic leaves, in accordance with CUNY policies and contractual requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate faculty appointment and review materials for institutional, college wide, and university level consideration.
  • Administer external review processes related to tenure and promotion, including solicitation, tracking, and documentation of external evaluations.
  • Track and report faculty workload both full-time and adjunct.
  • Manages process for Faculty Leave applications.
  • Serve as a confidential representative and primary liaison to the College Personnel and Budget Committee and related departmental and college wide personnel review committees.
  • Monitor and manage personnel timelines, including appeals, notifications, and issuance of official letters of reappointment, non reappointment, and statements of reasons.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure all documentation is processed for personnel activity.
  • Advise and support department chairs and academic administrators in guiding eligible faculty through appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes.
  • Draft and review guidance letters and personnel correspondence for review by the President, Provost, and College Labor Designee, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist in the development of, planning and implementation of college wide orientations and onboarding activities for new full time and part time faculty.
  • Contribute to institutional planning and continuous improvement related to faculty affairs, governance, and academic quality.
  • Ensures website for the Office of Faculty Affairs is up to date with accurate information.
