Job summary

  • Experience with academic/career advising and applying academic rules/regulations.
  • Experience with student records systems (PeopleSoft, Banner).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams and Zoom.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work some weekends and after-hours.
  • Experience leading and mentoring professional staff.

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Academic Advisor within the Carson College of Business, you will provide leadership in academic advising while delivering comprehensive, student-centered support to current, prospective and incoming students. This role is responsible for managing complex advising functions, helping students identify and achieve their academic and career goals, navigate challenges, and successfully progress toward degree completion.

As a senior member of the advising team, this position serves as a trusted resource, mentor and strategic partner to advisor, with a particular focus on coordinating and supporting the work of established advising staff. The Senior Academic Advisor fosters advising excellence by leading process improvements, developing innovative and scalable advising practices, and modeling proactive, holistic approaches to student engagement and success.

The position also contributes to college-wide initiatives related to orientation, retention, persistence and graduation. Working closely with faculty, staff, and campus partners, the Senior Academic Advisor supports key academic process, addresses student needs and enhances the overall student experience. Through a combination of direct student support, team leadership, and continuous improvement efforts, this role advances the mission of the Carson College of Business and promotes student achievement and success.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100 % FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.

Monthly Salary:

$5,072 - $5,600 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of full-time academic advising experience at a college or university or relevant professional experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Position will lead or supervise and require one or more years of full-time experience leading or supervising the work of others.

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques, with the ability to build trust and provide safe, supportive opportunities for students, from varied backgrounds, including, but not limited to, underrepresented, first generation, and/or high needs, to identify and pursue paths to graduation that support their educational goals and post‑graduation plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and respectfully interact with students, faculty, and staff of diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds, and an understanding of the institutional barriers faced by historically under‑served student populations in higher education.

  • Experience with academic/career advising, and experience applying academic rules and regulations.

  • Work experience using student records systems (i.e. PeopleSoft, Banner).

  • Work experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Zoom.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends and after regular business hours.

  • Experience leading, supervising and mentoring professional staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field.

  • Working knowledge of learning styles, freshman year experience, retention strategies, academic success strategies, and career development.
