Job summary

Calance in Richardson, TX, is seeking a Core Network Engineer (5G) responsible for design, deployment, and operation of 5G core platforms. The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, automation, and reliability across US and international deployments.

You will work with Open5GS, free5GC, or Magma, develop tooling in Python/Bash/Go, and collaborate with NOC and solution architects to deliver scalable, secure 5G services. Requires 5–8 years in telecom core networks and a BS/MS in CS or engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s in CS or engineering.
• 5–8 years in telecom core network design/integration.
• Deep understanding of SA/NSA 5G Core and 3GPP specs.
• Experience with Open5GS, free5GC, or Magma.
• Programming in C++, Python, Golang, Bash.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Git and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, operate 5G Core components (AMF/SMF/UPF) across SA/NSA.
• Maintain HA and geo-redundant configurations.
• Support roaming interconnects and inter-PLMN connectivity.
• Develop automation for deployment, testing, and monitoring.
• Provide Tier-3 NOC support for incidents.
• Collaborate with RAN and infra teams on lab and limited production deployments.
• Implement network slicing and service chaining.
• Follow 3GPP specs and security requirements.
• Create tools and scripts to improve MTTR and visibility.
