Job summary

NC State University’s Nanofabrication Facility seeks a Semiconductor Research Engineer to support fabrication equipment, processes, and safety. The role focuses on maintaining cleanroom infrastructure, troubleshooting complex issues, and optimizing processes for researchers in a university setting.

The engineer will collaborate with staff, vendors, and users to ensure reliable operations, advancement of capabilities, and a safe environment for semiconductor research.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in science or engineering
• Hands-on semiconductor processing and device fabrication in a clean-room environment
• Ability to operate tools in the facility and train users
• Experience in clean-room safety operations
• Familiarity with metrology and plasma etch equipment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on semiconductor fabrication equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve equipment issues to restore functionality.
• Coordinate with vendors for repairs and maintenance.
• Develop and document standard fabrication processes (photolithography, dry etching, deposition).
• Deliver hands-on training to internal and remote users on fabrication tools.
• Maintain cleanroom logs, SOPs, and inventory records.
