  • Enter progress, time, and expense data; document finished work and inspections.
  • Receive and audit parts; inspect components for defects; recommend process improvements.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and secure work area and adhere to safety policies.

Semiconductor Electro-Mechanical Assembly TechnicianStep into the world of Applied Materials in Gloucester, MA, where Varian Semiconductor heritage meets cutting-edge manufacturing. In this 18‑month contract (with the possibility of going permanent), you’ll help build the equipment that enables chips for smartphones, TVs, and more. The site also collaborates with supply chain and mechanical engineering rotational programs, creating a vibrant engineering environment.A day in the lifeYou begin your shift reviewing routine work orders and documentation—schematics, wiring diagrams, and parts/wire lists—before moving to the floor, where about 85% of your day is spent standing or walking. You’ll assemble mechanical units and electrical/electronic systems into subassemblies and full builds using hand and power tools, jigs, fixtures, and other shop equipment. Under guidance, you’ll utilize test fixtures, electronic measurement tools, leak detectors, and vacuum pumps to verify performance. When issues surface, you assist with basic troubleshooting and repairs, identifying and correcting errors with support from your team. Throughout the day, you capture progress, work expenses, and labor details at a computer terminal, and you may occasionally load software, perform simple programming tasks, or carry out minor repairs.
