Job summary

Empowering People's Independence in Rochester, NY seeks a compassionate staff member to support a 22-year-old female with brain injury and other neurological disabilities. You will assist with daily living activities, social and community skills, and independent living goals, acting as an advocate for rights and benefits.

Shift schedule includes Friday evenings and four hours Saturday, per diem. Pay is $20–$25/hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; one year in human services preferred.
• Must have valid New York State driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks as required.
• Must complete required trainings within 90 days of hire and maintain current certifications.

Job Purpose

• Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits.

Essential Functions

• Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, which includes, but is not limited to, self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills for a 22 year old female. She loves being active and socializing, and needs assistance with completing chores and working on cooking skills. Looking for staff to help with engaging in hobbies and interests such as dancing, sports, the YMCA, and other classes out in the community. She would like to work on independent living skills and has a goal of learning how to use public transportation.

Schedule

• Friday evenings and 4 hours Saturday morning or afternoon
• Per Diem (0-19.9)

Pay Rate

$20/hr-$25/hr

Education and Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.

Qualifications

• Maintain a valid New York State driver’s license; a vehicle is required to perform the job
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be trained in all required trainings within 90 days of being hired and maintain current certifications with all required trainings
• Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communications skills
• Must be 18 years or older
• Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported
