Qualifications

• Proficiency in assessment methods and data interpretation.

• Familiarity with Connecticut and federal special education regulations.
• Proficiency in instructional strategies and use of technology.

Responsibilities

• Develops short- and long-range instructional plans aligned with curriculum standards and IEP goals.
• Demonstrates knowledge of current legislation, regulations, policies, and ethical practices related to special education.
• Understands the needs of students with cognitive, developmental, emotional, behavioral, and communication disabilities.
• Designs and adapts curriculum and materials to meet diverse student needs.
• Plans instructional strategies to support academic, social-emotional, communication, and functional skills.
• Utilizes assistive technology and sensory supports to maximize student access.
• Prepares and uses assessment methods suitable for individual student needs and accommodations.
• Maintains curriculum resources and assistive/adaptive technology inventories.
• Plans for PPT/IEP meetings and collaborates with families and service providers.
• Implements classroom management and positive behavioral interventions.
• Establishes routines and transitions to support learning.
• Creates a positive classroom culture with high expectations.
• Utilizes visual schedules and communication systems to aid participation.
• Collaborates with teachers, therapists, and families for consistent support.
• Maintains safe and supportive classroom environment across settings.
• Implements evidence-based instructional practices and differentiated strategies.
• Provides small-group instruction aligned with IEP goals and standards.
• Integrates related services and behavioral supports into instruction.
• Develops student communication, self-advocacy, problem-solving skills.
• Uses formal and informal tools to monitor progress and inform decisions.
• Collects and analyzes data, maintaining progress monitoring records.
• Implements accommodations in IEPs for classroom instruction and assessments.
• Participates in behavior intervention plans and functional assessments.
