Job Title: Self Contained Behavior Instructional Aide

Exemption Status/ Test: Non-exempt

Reports to: Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned

Department/ School: Bay City ISD

Minimum Salary: $13.69/ hour

Annual Work Calendar Days: 187 Days

Primary Purpose:

Assist teachers/ campus with behavior and instructional support. Assist teachers in the preparation and management of classroom including diffusing disruptive student behavior to refocus and transition students into classroom activities.

Associate’s degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment as required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to assist in behavior management and intervention

Ability to work well with children and quickly respond to behavioral issues

Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

Two years experience working with children who exibit behavior problems

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Student Management

  • Assist in the immediate intervention and management of student behavior.
  • Diffuse disruptive behaviors, refocus and transition the student into classroom activities
  • Provide quick response support to teachers and campuses with disruptive, behaviorally challenged students
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with all district and campus staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Keep up-to-date administrative records and prepare required behavior and/or instructional related reports
  • Keep teacher and administration informed of special needs or behavioral problems of individual students
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
