Job summary

The University of Rochester in Rochester, NY is seeking a Patient Care Technician to join the Hem-Oncology Nursing team. The role provides basic and some specialized patient care under licensed nurse oversight, including venipuncture, EKGs, and telemetry, plus data collection and documentation on flow sheets.

You will support the unit by addressing environmental needs, participating in QA activities, and orienting patients and families to the unit and to their rights.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and two years of healthcare experience or equivalent.
• Experience as Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, EMT, Medic/Corps Person, or nursing student.
• Ability to perform basic and selected specialized patient care under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Collect and record specimens and body fluids as directed.
• Under nurse supervision, provide direct patient care affecting well‑being and safety.
• Perform venipuncture, EKGs, and telemetry readings; report findings to nursing staff.
• Document patient data on flow sheets and in records.
• Attend to patient environmental needs and comfort measures.

Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.Responsibilities:Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients.SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:None.MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:A variety of technical and mechanical apparatus, measuring devices, and analysis and office equipment.TYPICAL DUTIES:1.Participates in the delivery of patient care by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions as defined by the Patient Care Technician Skill Inventory. Tasks include collecting and recording of specimens and body fluids.2.Under the direct supervision of a nurse, performs direct patient care affecting the well being, comfort and safety of patients.3.Performs technical procedures and reports findings to the nursing staff.
